Hunter helper series (part 3)

Feb-26-2008

zhuntermod_20061212.jpgZhunter is a great mod that will save you some action button real-estate.  Do you have your favorite aspects mapped to a button or a macro?  Have all your different traps set everywhere on your UI?  Have all your pet management buttons all over the place?  Zhunter will help you get organized and free up a ton of space.  Zhunter is basically like a hunter button dock that sits on the left side of your screen, below your party interface.  There are 4 buttons stacked vertically - ZAspect, ZTrap, ZTrack, and ZPet.  Left click chooses the visible button, right click expands the options and lets you choose which action you want.

Use /zhunter to access options.
Here is a list of the other tools that come with Zhunter:

ZAutoShot (Casting bar for auto shot) - Use /zautoshot to lock/unlock the bar for movement.
ZAutoStrip (Button to strip your valuable gear.) -Right-click to auto strip when you exit combat (feign).
ZHunterTranq (Cooldown bars for other Hunter’s Tranq Shot.) Shows misses and includes options to announce in chat.
ZAntiDaze (Removes Cheetah and Pack when you or your party gets dazed.)
ZFeignHealth (Shows the actual health of friendly hunters while feigned.)
ZPetAttack (Key Binding to have pet attack or return if already attacking.)
ZPetObey (Key Binding to have pet stay or follo)

zhuntermodoptions_20061212.jpgSo if you want to free up some space on your UI, Zhunter will help you out.  I use it, love it and wholeheartedly recommend it.

Hunter helper series (part 2)

Feb-21-2008

Next up in the Hunter helper series is the Gazmik Fizzwidget’s feed-0-matic. This addon is primarily to assist in feeding your pet. To feed a pet, you need to click on your feed pet button, then click on what you want to feed it in your backpack. With the feed-o-matic, you can bind a key to Fizzwidget’s tool and by pressing it you can automatically feed your pet the correct food. How do you know the food is correct? The FOM automatically knows which is good for your pet- but if you are paranoid that it will feed your pet some of your raid food, you can configure (The console keyword to open up the options is: /fom) the FOM to never feed certain kinds of food.

One button pet feeding! SWEET!

But wait - there’s MOAR! You can also jump into the .lua file and make custom emotes for your pet when it eats! Don’t be scared about digging into the .lua file, just make sure you’re in the right one. You want to open FeedOMatic_Emotes.lua file. I love customizing stuff, so I made my cat emote a bit different and added a few emotes for the food (any)to the file you can see my changes below - preceded by #### (click to enlarge):

And this turns into :

Enjoy!

BONUS OFFER!!!
Gazmik Fizzwidget’s Hunter’s Helper -it’s very simple, but I really like it. I’m always forgetting to head over to Mania’s Petopia (if you are a hunter, and you haven’t been to either of these sites, please fix that.) and make sure my pets have the most updated skills- and this is where the HH will shine. It shows in the tooltip the pet abilities (if any) the pet has available to learn. Very simple, but very helpful.

If you get a chance, just go check out everything from Gazmik, the site is hilarious and awesome.

A discussion with a melee hunter…

Feb-19-2008

I ran SFK last night with my Horde warrior, Shemoos. I love Shemoos. There was a hunter in our group, who will remain nameless. He was a huntard. The kind that makes BRK shed tears. I didn’t really notice it much, until we started getting into the tight hallways and I saw him on numerous occasions meleeing mobs. At first I didn’t say anything, I usually don’t. Then our healer died while he was meleeing a mob to death. Ok, now I’m concerned. And I voiced it:

hunter1.JPG

I don’t know if he understood. He could have saved the healer, distracting shot with a pet sent in with growl turned on would have done nicely. Or a trap. I feel like my comments above were pretty light and not demeaning in any way. We got to the next boss, Commander Springvale and killed him. He dropped the Arced War Axe. Maybe, MAYBE a hunter would benefit from this weapon, but I think I could argue that the 2 WARRIORS and the PALADIN in the group could use it much better. The huntard Need rolled. I went psychotic.

hunter22.JPG

Now, I know - he didn’t win and it shouldn’t have been a big deal. He refused any suggestions or hints, and was set on meleeing even though our healer was getting crushed. He was mad about not getting the roll! I should have let it go. There was some BRK instilled huntard rage set deep inside me, waiting to erupt on some poor sod. This was the sod. Finally, I had pity. I suspected this guy might even be a farmer of Asian ethnicity - his level 20 pet boar was aptly named: Boar. In any case, I finally decided to point him in the right direction and let BRK handle this walking atrocity.

I had no reply from the huntard. I might have been ignored, he might have rolled his eyes. I hope he gets to BRK, for the love of Elune…

Hunter helper series (part 1)

Feb-14-2008

I love addons. I really enjoy how Blizzard embraces the technical community and invites them to make addons to help the game get better. I snicker when Blizzard steals the addons and incorporates them into the UI. There are TONS of incredibly useful addons I consider absolute must have addons.

kht2.jpgThis post is not about them. Well, kinda. This post is for all you hunters out there. There are 3 different addons that I think EVERY hunter should have, no questions asked. The first that I will cover is Kharthus’s Hunter Timers.

KHT gives you a movable bar that will automatically display timers on hunter abilities. If you drop a trap, a countdown starts to let you know how long the trap will last. If you mend your pet, a countdown begins as well. Basically everything a hunter does is comes up in a timer that is easily viewable and understandable.

kht1.jpgPersonally I got the addon just for tracking traps. Once I installed it, I was really impressed with all that it can do. You can pick which things to time, how the bars look, how they inform you once a timer is up, etc. It also gives you a small grey box (anchor) to grab onto and move around your UI anywhere you want it.

Go check it out!

Kindergarten graduation!

Feb-13-2008

Kindergarten graduationLast night, I graduated from my kindergarten PvP class. There was cake, a nice ceremony, and I got some honor.

I killed 2 horde my level, at the same time.

I was questing in Zeth’Gor - outside of Thrallmar in Hellfire Penn., trying to get some tokens for a quest. I saw a mage sitting there, not doing anything and a LOT of dead mobs everywhere. /target mage - send kitteh for snacks!

Now earlier yesterday I was reading somewhere that when a mage starts to cast the big ol pyro blast, you can feign death and he will stop the looong cast, and loose his target.

Sure enough - the fire mage has the pyro started, and my kitteh is tickling him. The pyro was ALMOST cast, and I hit feign death. The mage just stood there, not really sure what to do. Meanwhile my kitteh was nearly done with his clothie snack, and POW, a rogue pops up and tries to stunlock me. I’m not sure how, but I got loose, laid a frost trap and got away, hit my /pet attack/mark macro and started running for the hills, getting off a serpent sting and a concussive shot to slow him down. I turn around, hit him with arcane shot, multishot, and renew the serpent sting when a warlock arrives. He dots me up and as I’m going down - the serpent sting kills the rogue.

It was great.  My heart was pounding, adrenaline was flowing through my viens.  There’s just something about World PvP that gets me going.  It seems more dangerous somehow, unorganized, chaotic and scary.

Now, I’m in PvP 1rst grade.  Time to learn new things and become stronger, more systematic PvPer.  I need to get betterVS Rogues, and warriors.  I need to get that iwin button on my G15 made, and start testing it out.  The tough part will be knowing that I’m “free”.  If I’m still stunlocked, then the macro won’t really work right, but I guess it won’t exactly HURT.

oh yeah.  I just got this ->epics

My first day in PvP Kindergarten.

Feb-6-2008

bad_respawn.jpgAww. How cute, my hunter wants to be a good PvPer. So, um…how does one become a good PvPer? I imagine it takes some of the following:

Knowledge of your class
Fearlessness
Quick reaction time
Planning
Thinking quick on your feet

So far, I have none of those things. I’m in Ironforge. I remember that I need to train my level 60 abilities, and spend 50+ gold on them. I respecced my pet for good measure. I go up to the ramp, and queue up for AV. Now, I’ve NEVER been to AV. EVER. I do know that it is a large battleground, filled with towers and there are bases and NPCs and bosses and that’s about the extent of my knowledge. I must read up on AV.

Below is a commentary on the video of my first AV action.

So anyway, I’m in a cave with some birds and stuff, so I figure I should probably not stay here (I cannot find anything worth defending). Ah! The map! I should check out where my teammates are! The map instantly confuses and intimidates me. Where do I go? What do I do when I get there? HEY! There is a cow trying to take what looks like one of my flags.

/kill cow

ALRIGHT! Now we’re smokin! Ohh, look there are lots of horde right here. BRK says to find a squishy and let your pet eat them. OK! Done. Another kill. Aww look at the kitty with horns behind me. Cute little guy. OW BAD KITTY. GET AWAY! WHOA - what are these guard guys doing here? Feign Death. lol. Ok, I should be doing more killing. Multishot, Aimed shot, Bestial Wrath, WHOOHOO!

ahh. I’m dead now.

There may or may not be a WWS report of this encounter.

Things I learned:

  • AV could be fun if I learned more about it
  • I think I can handle pretty much any class in PvP if I do things right
  • I do not know how to do things right
  • Don’t go into Battle with an unfamiliar or messed up User Interface
  • If I got “lost in the crowd” I could be pretty effective
  • It feels pretty good to see my kitty pwning clothies
  • I suck at kiting

It was a fun experiment, something I wouldn’t mind trying again. Any advice for me? What my strategy should be?

?

Jan-25-2008

huh?I changed my favicon. To most of you this is really stupid and you could care less. It’s actually the same picture you see here. in this post. I like lolcats, and I’m really not sure why. I think cats are stupid actually and I like dogs.

Thanks to the Blog Azeroth people who put up some great resources so dumb people like me can do really cool things. Ok, so this favicon thing may or may not be cool, but I like it. They have a really nice guide over there on how to do this, so feel free to check em out and join up. I actually downloaded a plugin (Digital Ramble’s favicon manager) for Wordpress that manages this for you and it works for me so I guess I like it.
